The hospitals were one of the most important landmark in the city in the period from the last decade of 15th Century up until the French Revolution. Many of the foreign travellers who visited Spain during this period described them in their traveller’ accounts. The present article will tackles the study of the traveller’s testimonies in order to know their perception of the Spanish hospitals. I will take as an example seven Spanish cities. I will make a selection of travellers’ texts that dealt with hospitals. These document will be contrasted with sources of the same age and studies about hospital institution. The analysis of the texts allow us to know the facet of this institution with the author were most interested in. Besides the chronological study of the travellers’ accounts will help to understand the evolution of the perception of the hospitals in the period under study.
