ICEDO-ZAMORA, Tatliana Mercedes  y  ROMAN-PEREZ, Rosario. The meanings of work in the information and knowledge age: From survival to personal and aesthetics satisfaction. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.55, e20930.  Epub 06-Dic-2021. ISSN 2395-9169.  https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v30i55.930.

From the era of industrialization to that of information and knowledge, in the western world, the meanings of work have been transformed as it loses its centrality as a means of survival, acquiring other meanings related to personal satisfaction and aesthetics.

Objective:

To analyze empirical studies on the meanings of work, from the end of the Second World War to date, with emphasis on the research methods and instruments used, identifying areas of opportunity for the construction and adaptation of others, applicable in distinct contexts and populations.

Methodology:

Research that considered beliefs, values and/or attitudes about the meanings of work was included, organizing papers by method, context, and period of economic development.

Results:

The most used methodologies and instruments start by considering work as central to people's lives, although the meanings are not static, but may vary depending on age, education, job position and sex.

Limitations:

The research analyzed mainly corresponds to a single inquiry model.

Conclusions:

The results show research avenues to analyze the impact of the new aspects of the labor market, updating methods and instruments used until now.
