Objective:

This research aims to know the quality of diets offered by full-time elementary schools in Valle Fértil, Province of San Juan, in relation to children overweight and obesity.

Consisted in the calculation of the nutritional contribution of menus, and also interviews with principals and visit to the schools.

Results:

The variety in the diet does not conform to the daily recommendations for school-age children, in terms of energy (kilocalories), proteins, fibres and micronutrients; the results vary from school to school with respect to sodium, iron and macronutrients

Limitations:

The effective cases of childhood obesity in the schools under study were not recorded or analysed; neither students nor parents or teachers were interviewed. In addition, it is noted that healthy eating habits are not taught in schools. However, the number of recommended meals is respected.
