GUERRA SESMA, Daniel. The antinomies of the european union: the problems of a definitive integration. Derecho glob. Estud. sobre derecho justicia [online]. 2020, vol.5, n.15, pp.39-61. Epub 04-Ago-2020. ISSN 2448-5136. https://doi.org/10.32870/dgedj.v5i15.311.
The European Union has a double side: a positive one, as a strongly integrated supranational organization with its own personality. Another negative, to the extent that it does not reach the level of integration required by various social and political sectors. The Union is at a turning point where it seems not to move towards a model of greater sovereignty, while on the other hand it is understood that it has advanced too much to the detriment of national sovereignty. It is a point of permanent debate in which the central question is not clearly raised: if the Union can make further progress in its integration without becoming a State of its own, and how that can be achieved.
This work aims to be a reflection on the situation in which the European Union is, to what extent we can define its federal or confederal nature, taking into account the classic legal-political categories, and from here try to mark future perspectives and see what is the meaning of these, or see if it is necessary to consider new formulations.
