Resumen
PEREZ-RAMIREZ, Berenice. From the notion of mental disorder to the concept of psychosocial disability based on a situated intervention. Inter disciplina [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.25, pp.233-256. Epub 22-Nov-2021. ISSN 2448-5705. https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2021.25.79975.
The objective is to show the findings that we identify from a social work intervention strategy with Maru, who in her daily environment within the Women’s Center for Social Reintegration is treated as a woman with dementia, to show how she got involved actively with the work team coordinated by me and made up of 15 students of the last year of the degree in social work, who visited the center during 2019. As a result of this experience, I will discuss some medical notions about dementia, since the perspective to address mental suffering (Galende 2015). Based on this strategy, we identified the relevance of psychosocial and group approaches to understand psychosocial disability and promote significant changes in a woman with dementia. The strategy also allowed us to identify the ways in which the penitentiary institution reinforces a specific femininity. I will detail what do we observe and lived with Maru in three axes: appearance and care, gestural communication and social etiquette, and memory.
