This piece analyzes the threshold as a fantastic device in Rafael F. Muñoz “Looping the loop”. The theoretical framework that guides this investigation is based on the works of Tzvetan Todorov, Ana María Barrenechea, Rosalba Campra and, specially, on the idea of Andrea Castro, for whom the threshold is “the principal element that organizes the encounter between two incompatible worlds”. The writer is presented, at the beginning of the article, along with a brief history of the short story within his narrative universe. This story has been previously reviewed as part of the Mexican Revolution narrative canon. This paper suggests an interpretation of this work from a different perspective, which takes into account the richness of the Chihuahuan writer’s production. Therefore, this article points out three times in which the threshold occurs, functioning as a fantastic device.
