Resumen

MORAN FAUNDES, José Manuel. Assemblages between Neoconservative Activism and Neoliberalism: Insight from the South. Estud. sociol [online]. 2022, vol.40, n.119, pp.391-422.  Epub 02-Dic-2022. ISSN 2448-6442.  https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2022v40n119.2190.

This article explores the reasons neoconservatism publicly uses to promote its moral agenda in conjunction with neoliberal agendas. It analyzes the proposals of a series of “pro-life”/“pro-family” political parties in Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Peru, and the content produced by the promoters of neo-conservative ideas in South America. The article proposes three categories summarizing the ways neoconservative-neoliberal links operate: a “functional link” that understands that tradition serves the market and freedom; a “subsidiary link” that understands that the withdrawal of the state would strengthen subsidiary institutions, such as the patriarchal family; and a “defensive link ” that assumes that all state intervention, including sexual and reproductive rights, reflects a neo-Marxist agenda.

Palabras llave : Neoconservatism; neoliberalism; sexuality; conservatism; Latin America.
