Resumen
GIOVINE, Manuel Alejandro y BARRI, Juan. Agency in the Sociology of Pierre Bourdieu and Anthony Giddens. Estud. sociol [online]. 2024, vol.42, e2404. Epub 24-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2448-6442. https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2024v42.e2404.
The notion of agency has had an undeniable impact on contemporary sociological theory. However, there has been very little reflection on the epistemological potentialities and limitations of this concept for the strategic action of the subject. The paper presents these potentialities and limitations from the perspectives of Pierre Bourdieu and Anthony Giddens, as an increasingly relevant instrument for explaining and understanding social action and their implicit meanings and significance. At the same time, it shows the importance of this concept for understanding the scope of the reflexive process in the strategic choice of the subject (whether individual or collective), the person who ultimately produces and reproduces society through their practices.
