CORRALES-HERRERO, Helena y RODRIGUEZ-PRADO, Beatriz. La incidencia de la formación en la edad adulta en la empleabilidad de los individuos. El caso de España. El trimestre econ [online]. 2016, vol.83, n.329, pp.149-183. ISSN 2448-718X.
It is generally accepted that investment in initial education has a measurable impact both on individuals and society. And yet, there is very little evidence on the economic benefits of lifelong learning. The aim of this paper is to estimate the impact of lifelong learning (formal and non-formal education) on the probability of being employed. For doing so, we apply the propensity score matching methodology to a dataset extracted from the Survey on Adult Participation in Learning Activities. Results show that adult participation in non-formal education has a positive effect on individual employability. However, the estimated effect is not homogeneous, detecting significant differences in terms of gender, age and level of initial education. Other features such as who paid for the training and the reasons for taking the activity have also turned out to play a significant role.
