GONZALEZ PERALTA, Angelina G.; MOLINA ZAVALETA, Juan Gabriel y SANCHEZ AGUILAR, Mario. Identification of Strategies Used by Undergraduate Students in a Two-player Game. Educ. mat. [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.2, pp.187-208. Epub 14-Feb-2022. ISSN 2448-8089. https://doi.org/10.24844/em2902.07.
The purpose of this manuscript is to increase our knowledge about the potential offered by the use of strategy games to promote useful skills in problem solving. We report the results of a study conducted at the undergraduate, where students engaged in a two-player game called “circle of coins”. We analyze the games played by four students. The main contributions include are: 1) identifying the specific strategies used by each of the players to try to win the games and 2) the conditions under which these strategies arose. In addition, 3) we argued that the practice of strategy games could encourage the development of heuristics useful in solving mathematical problems.
