DELGADO AGUILAR, Francisco Javier. Urban police, water use and social change. The civilizing process in the city of Aguascalientes. 1880-1940. Let. hist. [online]. 2018, n.19, pp.181-199. ISSN 2448-8372.
The notion of “civilization process” proposed by Norbert Elias is the starting point to study the changes in practices and customs related to the forms of water supply in the city of Aguascalientes in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The text begins with the analysis of the provisions of the police regulations linked to the water supply and continues with the impact of the system of supply to home in the customs of the inhabitants of Aguascalientes. The objective is to demonstrate that the new supply system modified behaviors prohibited by the police regulations and promoted what Norbert Elias defined as “civilization process”.
