VANINA ODETTI, Jimena; REYES GONZALEZ, Alberto  y  REYES GONZALEZ, Andrés Enrique. Chromatic Design as a Proposal for Enhancing the Urban Image: The Case of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Zincografía [online]. 2017, vol.1, n.1, pp.52-71.  Epub 09-Oct-2020. ISSN 2448-8437.  https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v0i1.16.

This paper presents a bibliographical and historical review of the study of city chromatic design as a means of proposing a methodological approach for the chromatic analysis of the city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco in Mexico. This is done through identifying the colors’ relationship to the feelings and thoughts around the city, along with the tones that indicate the relationship between that and the inhabitant, thus establishing a network of signification between color, architecture, context and urban imaginaries.

Based on the literature review and the analysis of examples around the world, this paper argues that the presence of color, both in the architecture as well as in each of the elements that make up the public space, is fundamental to the effective construction of the meaning of the urban image.

One of the conclusions of the analysis is that the perception and experience of the architectural scenario grant the user or inhabitant an array of meanings and information that help create a chromatic mental map which constitutes, along with the passing of time, configurational elements of an identity.
