The present research aims to analyze the work done in practice in the process of designing a container, generate competences in the students of the Degree in Design for Graphic Communication of the University Center for Art, Architecture and Design of the University from Guadalajara.
In an initial way, some generalities about the concept of competences and their application in the formative processes in higher education are described. Specifically, the central objective is to show evidence of its development in the design process of the students of this degree. Therefore, the case study is a relevant proposal to analyze and evaluate its results and is proposed as evidence for the reflection on the teaching practice in bachelor’s degrees with this approach.
This case study was applied with students of the subject of Design III container of the fourth semester. One of the main competences is to solve an approach that requires to solve graphically, and to apply a proposal of three-dimensional way to the elaboration of a container or container.
Some conclusions allow to reflect on the relevance of the work in the classroom with the competence approach, highlighting its scope and limitations.
