Resumen

MARTINEZ ARELLANO, Itzel. The world of transhumance: the inhabitants of the streets in Mexico City. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.75, pp.93-115.  Epub 03-Jul-2020. ISSN 2448-8488.

This article aims to relate two worlds: that of the people who inhabit the street and that of the city, to present a contemporary look at urban transhumance. Based on Auge’s proposal on contemporary worlds and on Delgado’s perspective of the city, this paper analyzes the characteristics of the street, the modes of action of the people who inhabit it, and the institution as an object. To this end, a moving ethnography of the ways of living and circulating with older adults living in the street in Mexico City is carried out. Finally, it states that urban transhumance is the bridge between the relationships and coexistence agreements that older adults establish with passers-by, and with the institutions that assist them. Likewise, there is tension due to the ways of re-allocation of spaces and daily street life, faced with the task of urban planning and the normal working day.
