The paragangliomas of the carotid body is a rare, slow-growing neoplasm associated with chronic hypoxia. The established treatment being surgical, if it is detected early, or with irradiation if it is not feasible due to increased morbidity of post-operative neurological and vascular sequelae. The subject is reviewed regarding two cases in women aged 26 and 42, both from a high-altitude area of Peru, with Shamblin III category carotid glomus on the right and left side respectively. Being subjected to irradiation, preserving as much as possible of surrounding healthy tissue.
