Background:
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may increase mental disorders in training health practitioners.
Objective:
To identify the level of mental health risk in training health practitioners during the COVID-19 pandemic in Querétaro.
Material and methods:
Cross-sectional descriptive study in a second level hospital. The sample size was 220, the sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience. The participants signed an informed consent letter. An instrument for mental health screening in COVID-19 was applied during June 2020. The statistical analysis was performed with measures of central tendency, frequencies, percentages and 95% confidence intervals.
Results:
The average age was 25.67 ± 3.61, 52.7% were women, 65.9% were undergraduate medical interns. According to marital status, 90.9% are single and 53.2% live with a nuclear family. 25.9% were originally from Querétaro. The global frequency of risk level was reported for violence in 43.2%, suicide 15%, substance use 35.9%, acute stress 48.2%, generalized anxiety 45%, estrangement and anger 44.1%, avoidance and sadness 35.5% and health anxiety 40.5%.
Conclusions:
An important prevalence was presented for conditions of high lethality: violence, suicide and substance use.
