CUERVO-QUINTERO, Luna M. et al. Endovascular management of a post-traumatic carotid-jugular fistula. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2023, vol.51, n.4, pp.139-142. Epub 16-Abr-2024. ISSN 2696-130X. https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.23000013.
Background:
Carotid-jugular fistula represent 4% of all traumatic arteriovenous fistulas. Its main cause is penetrating injury caused by a sharp weapon followed by firearm injury; in the last few years, iatrogenic injuries have played an important role in this pathology.
Objective:
To communicate the diagnosis and endovascular therapeutic approach of post-traumatic jugular carotid fistula.
Method:
We report a case of a 58 year old man who suffers a penetrating trauma due to a sharp weapon, initially without evidence of vascular compromise and who later develops this complication.
Results:
The patient underwent endovascular surgery with embolization of the fistula and pseudoaneurysm using coils, the patient required a second intervention in which obliteration of the Onyx® pseudoaneurysm was performed with optimal evolution in outpatient follow-up.
Conclusion:
Endovascular management is positioned as the management standard in hemodynamically stable patients due to low morbidity and mortality, replicability, and use in different vascular segments.
