VILLA FONTECHA, Germán Humberto. Bioethics in a Broad Sense, Human Rights and Nature Rights. Rev. filos. Univ. Iberoam. [online]. 2023, vol.55, n.155, pp.12-51. Epub 17-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2954-4602. https://doi.org/10.48102/rdf.v55i155.179.
The serious socio-environmental problems that the planet is going through due to climate change, pollution and the degradation of ecosystems, force a strong questioning of the way in which the man-nature relationship has been structured in Western modernity. It is necessary to rethink this relationship in terms of reintegration and ethical commitment to all forms of life, from the exercise of a dialectical rationality. For this, it is necessary to build a new conceptual framework to understand this relationship, within which the bioethical approach in a broad sense would have a central role, since it would allow formulating universal imperatives such as that of Fritz Jahr, aimed at the protection of life, beyond the distinction between species. This new framework of understanding would lead, upon landing in the field of law, to renew the foundation of certain human rights understood as nature rights.
