The article analyzes the subsidy called the Fondo Tecnológico del Tabaco (ftt) that minister Krieger Vasena created during his tenure in the government of Juan Carlos Onganía and that was applied to the price of tobacco. My proposal is that the ftt was one of the important factors for foreign tobacco companies to enter the Argentine economy without the need to incur large expenses, since part of the purchase of their main input was in charge of the national State. At the same time, the implementation of this subsidy by the military government solved the problem of demand for light tobacco for foreign companies, by granting them stability in supply from rural producers. The structure of the subsidy will be studied and the changes introduced in the Argentine tobacco market will be investigated.
