The development of scientific thinking skills has become increasingly important in science education. However, it is difficult for students to develop more than one skill at the same time. This paper shows the implementation of argumentation, besides modeling was implemented at the same time, during two semesters of high school chemistry course. Toulmin's argumentation grid was applied to encourage reflection on the structure of the argument. The results were assessing through a rubric designed specifically for that purpose. We found that students argue according to the kind of teacher instruction; which also determined the kind of argument.
