ZURITA, Mario. The CRISPR / Cas’s system, chronicle of an announced Nobel prize. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.3, pp.3-13. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.3.79714.
Since the beginning of the last decade, when the CRISPR / Cas system was created as a tool to edit genomes, the scientific community realized the importance of this powerful methodology. Over the years it has become much more robust and a series of collateral tools have been generated, in many cases adapted for each organism, in such a way that it is becoming routinely used in any Molecular Biology laboratory. Therefore, the Nobel Prize to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna, who participated in an important way in the development of this methodology was expected. This article describes the key discoveries that were made in order to use this knowledge in the development of what is probably the most important molecular tool since the development of Genetic Engineering and also how it works to edit genomes as well as some other applications.
