FEDERICO GARATE, Octavio y SEBASTIAN VEIGA, Lionel. Videogames mediated nanotechnology introduction: A theoretical proposal. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.3, pp.52-67. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.3.75694.
Due to the nature of its construction, nanotechnology is presented as a branch of science that demands the understanding of early to mid-tier concepts of multiple disciplines such as chemistry, physics and biology. While this multi-layered discipline is usually explained in college with the assistance of simulations and lab practices, a totally different pedagogical approach is needed when explaining its theoretical framework to a broader young audience. In that regard, from a theoretical perspective, videogames corresponding to the Souls-like genre can act as an entry door and a concept representation media with varying degrees of dynamism in order to introduce core concepts of nanotechnology such as scale considerations, size-dependent optical and surface properties, and application field. By approaching nanotechnology with an interdisciplinary focus, suitable aspects of games design allowed the construction of fruitful conceptual analogies that illustrated the nanotechnology conceptual framework from both a macroscopic and intuitive focus.
