GONZALEZ ARRATIA LOPEZ FUENTES, Norma Ivonne; DOMINGUEZ ESPINOSA, Alejandra del Carmen y VALDEZ MEDINA, José Luis. Self-esteem as a mediator between positive-negative affection and resilience in a sample of Mexican children. Acta univ [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.1, pp.88-94. The present study aims to provide evidence for the mediator effect of self-esteem between the positive (PA) and negative affection (NA) of resilience in children. We conducted the crosssectional study on a sample of 188 Mexican school children aged between 9 and 12 years old (X = 10.59, D. E. = 0.69). The students answered the scales of self-esteem by González-Arratia (2011a), which is the version of the PANAS scale of positive-negative affection (Watson, Clark & Tellegen, 1988) and resilience (González-Arratia, 2011b) validated for Mexican samples. Descriptive analysis, correlation, and a trajectory model through the structural equations with the method of the maximum likelihood for verification were conducted. The results show a moderate correlation between the variables. The proposed model suggests a significant direct effect of PA on resilience but not for NA. A significant indirect effect of self-esteem on resilience supports the main hypothesis. Further research is required to continue specifying the model in a diversified sample, as well as to analyze the potential differences according to gender and age.
