Resumen

VALENZUELA MARROQUIN, Manuel Luis. Subordination and political violence in the Peruvian theatre: The arrival of the peasant as a point of reference for change in theatrical discourse. Alteridades [online]. 2011, vol.21, n.41, pp.161-174. ISSN 2448-850X.

The violent political process spurred by the Communist Party-Shining Path in Peru in 1980, created a context in which popular artists, suffering hardship and repression in those decades, brought the peasant into their discourses. But, at the same time, they made a proposal in favor or against the insurgents in those years. They reached a stage in which the subversive groups generated a theatrical proposal on which the esthetic and political relations could be analyzed. This article highlights this, describing the particular proposal of the theatre produced by Shining Path.

Palabras llave : peasant theatre; subordinated classes; peasantry; popular art; jails; Shining Path; Victor Zavala Catano.
