ANTONIO GARCIA, Guillermina. The Protection of Free Black and Mulatto Minors in the Viceregal Capital City, 16th and 17th centuries. Alteridades [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.47, pp.21-30. ISSN 2448-850X.
This paper aims to analyze the legal, civil and religious protection offered to the free black and mulatto minors in colonial Mexico City during the 16th and 17th centuries. Such protection considered a double objective: to protect their lives and rights, and to provide enough resources for their integration into society as productive and useful individuals, as well as faithful members of the Church, based on the reproduction and conservation of the family institution established by the Indian legislation and Canon Law. This research is based in notarial documents.
