CARRASCO-YEPEZ, E.; ARREBOLA-BAENA, M. y ENCINAR-GARCINUNO, J.A.. Desarrollo, análisis y diseño de antenas tipo reflectarray. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.4, pp.239-263. ISSN 2594-0732.
This paper shows the most important features of a barely known and relatively new technology: microstrip reflectarray antennas, which are characterized by a microstrip array printed on a flat structure illuminated by a feed horn. The first part, is written as an introduction for the undergraduate and graduate telecommunications students and as a review for the antenna specialists. Advantages of these antennas are discussed as well as their limitations, mainly band width. In the second part, a method of analysis and design for multilayer printed reflectarrays is presented. The phase of the reflection coefficient at each array element (de fined as a periodic cell) is computed by the Moments Method in the spectral do main and assuming local periodicity. Two phase-shifter examples are shown: an aperture coupled unit cell and a multilayer cell with variable-size rectangular patches. A reflectarray with this last unit cell is used for a pencil beam application. Finally, a pattern synthesis technique to obtain contoured beams is de tailed, including two examples for space (DBS) and terrestrial (LMDS) applications.
