GARCIA-PRADO, Romel Alaric et al. Transfer of technology to produce biodiesel with filter cake in the sugar industry of Guatemala. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.1. ISSN 2594-0732. https://doi.org/10.22201/fi.25940732e.2019.20n1.006.
The capacity of production, macro location and profitability of a Cuban technology to produce biodiesel and its possibilities of transfer for the use of the cachaça in sugar industries of Guatemala. The calculations of the technological design were carried out with laboratory-scale experiments previously carried out in the Cuban context. This allowed the construction, assembly and testing of operation in Guatemala. Subsequently, an economic evaluation of the technology designed and the macro location of the plant was carried out from 11 sources of raw materials and two possible locations in the Guatemalan regions. The economic calculations showed: the possibility of industrial scaling of the developed technology, the profitability of production in the two locations studied and the availability of raw materials to satisfy the production capacity of biodiesel. However, for the scaling at the industrial level the evaluation of environmental, legal and social aspects should be considered. The results obtained are of great value because the filter cake is a renewable source of raw materials. The use of this sugar residue in the region reduces the risk of environmental contamination, in turn increasing the production of biofuels. It is possible to obtain the industrial scaling of the developed technology. The assimilation of this biodiesel production technology with residuals from the sugar industry is profitable, if the residuals of the small sugar factories are combined in optimally macrolocalized biodiesel producing facilities, with possibilities of producing more than 50,000 kg of biodiesel per day.
