Given the importance of paraphrasing as part of the process of comprehension for college students, this study assessed the level of implementation of text analysis and paraphrasing in the responses of a sample of undergraduate psychology majors. We selected a group of freshmen, who were asked to answer a questionnaire and write a summary of an empirical article. The results indicate that participants possess low levels of both text analysis and paraphrasing. It was seen that verbatim text copying prevailed; nevertheless, possibilities for structuring a training workshop were discerned.
