ANGELES LOPEZ, Guadalupe Esther; BRINDIS, Fernando; CRISTIANS NIIZAWA, Sol y VENTURA MARTINEZ, Rosa. Cannabis sativa L., a singular plant. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2014, vol.45, n.4, pp.1-6. ISSN 1870-0195.
Cannabis sativa is one of the oldest cultivated plants; it has been used in the manufacture of a variety of products ranging from textiles to medicines. C. sativa is characterized by having a large family of compounds called cannabinoids, which are synthesized only in this genus and have recently unleashed an unusual interest because of the discovery of an endogenous cannabinoid system. In Mexico, because of the illegal status of this plant, several botanical and chemical aspects of the species, even of the most cultivated varieties are still unknown.
