Resumen

CARBAJAL LOPEZ, David. Ceremonies, calendar and religious images: religion, nation and political parties in Mexico, 1821-1860. Tzintzun. Rev. estud. históricos [online]. 2017, n.65, pp.70-97. ISSN 2007-963X.

In the initial decades of life of the Mexican nation, Catholicism maintained its position as the national religion. For this reason, the ceremonial and political festive calendars were based on catholic liturgy, and even religious images were defined as “national”. However, political dynamics aimed at the formation of political parties, and the polarization of positions, also affected public manifestations, celebrations, and the images, which ended up being mobilized in favor of certain political groups.

Palabras llave : secularization; ceremonies; holidays; religious images.
