Resumen
LAVARIEGA NOLASCO, Mario C.. Noteworthy records of birds from the northwestern district of Villa Alta, Oaxaca, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.1, pp.44-53. ISSN 1870-7459.
From 2005 to 2012, I sporadically visited the district of Villa Alta, northern Oaxaca. I recorded 55 bird species, of which only two (Troglodytes aedon and Vireolanius melithoprys) have been previously reported from Sierra Zempoaltépetl. I provide detailed information for 12 species: Seven species are considered threatened by the Mexican government or are on the red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (Penelope purpurascens, Crax rubra, Buteo albonotatus, Aulacorhynchus prasinus, Ramphastos sulfuratus, Trogon collaris, and Psarocolius montezuma), and five (Claravis pretiosa, Ciccaba virgata, Trogon melanocephalus, Momotus momota, and Vireolanius melitophrys) are relevant because these are the first sightings in 25 years, or their distribution is incremented regionally for Important Bird Area Sierra Norte.
Palabras llave : cloud forest; IBA Sierra Norte; geographical distribution; threatened species; Sierra de Zempoaltépetl.
