IBARRA-SANCHEZ, José de Jesús y PRECIADO-ROJAS, Yolanda. Effect of operating parameters in the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications using a design of experiments 2k. Nova scientia [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.17, pp.157-180. ISSN 2007-0705.
The effect of stirring speed, temperature, feed rate of the reactants, and the solubility of the precursors in the size particle of the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) obtained by coprecipitation was investigated. MNPs size obtained was 7 to 15 nm. The size and morphology of MNPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) allow determining the oxide phases present as well as the crystallinity of the sample obtained. IR spectroscopy technique helped identify the Fe-O bond and impurities present in the sample. To determine their magnetic properties the hysteresis cycles were obtained, which were measured at room temperature using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Finally, to determine the effect of this variation of key operating parameters during synthesis a design of experiments 2k was thought, taking the particle size as response variable. The results showed that the combination of reagents which provides maximum particle size is when a high solubility of the precursors occurs. It was also observed that there is a direct relationship between the decrease of the polydispersity of the particles and decreasing the reaction temperature. Finally these MNPs are candidates to be used in biomedical applications, due to size, narrow polydispersity, high crystallinity and high saturation magnetization.
