ESPINOSA CALDERON, Alejandro et al. V-54 A, new variety of yellow grain maize for delayed rainfall in highland areas in Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.5, pp.677-680. ISSN 2007-0934.
In Highland Valleys of Mexico is located in altitudes of 2 200 to 2 600 masl, they are cultivated near 1.5 million hectares with maize, which represents near 20% of the established national surface with this species, of this extension 800 000 hectares is cultivated in strict weather, which appears generally in delayed form, which in this way limits the date of sowing and the productivity of the culture. In the State of Mexico, of the 600 000 hectares that seed with maize esteem that in 300 000 of them the productivity is limited (1.2 t ha-1), by the limited rainfall and date of delayed sowing, that frequently agrees with the incidence of early frosts. An option for these conditions represents the use of varieties of short cycle, that take advantage of the agroclimatic conditions available; nevertheless, the supply of this type of varieties, being used generally Creole varieties is limited. The previous improved varieties released did not go V-26 A (Cuapiaxtla), not being used commercially at present, the other denominated variety Yellow Carrot, released by ICAMEX in 1990, is used either at the moment.
