BATTAN HORENSTEIN, Ariela. From dance as habit to dance as motor Project. Rev. filos.open insight [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.25, pp.167-186. Epub 27-Sep-2021. ISSN 2395-8936.
The phenomenon of dancing is barely treated in the work of M. Merleau-Ponty. To solve this lack, the present work reviews the merleau-pontyan understanding of dancing in the context of the Phenomenology of perception. Merleau-Ponty characterizes dancing as a motor habit and, in that sense, as something parallel to driving a car. For this reason, his understanding of dance implies, among other things, the conception of the body as an instrument, that is, as a means to capture a formula. The present work, for its part, conceives dancing as a «motor project» (Bewegungsentwurf), with the aim of showing the cognitive and expressive value of the bodily intention.
