QUEZADA, Pablo; SANTILLAN, Miguel; HINOJOSA, Ricardo y RADA, Jorge. Insecurity perception versus crime rate; ¿which has a bigger impact on Mexico’s economy?. Ens. Rev. econ. [online]. 2019, vol.38, n.2, pp.205-226. Epub 12-Abr-2021. ISSN 2448-8402. https://doi.org/10.29105/ensayos38.2-3.
The purpose of this study is to compare the impact of insecurity perception against the crime rate in economic indicators that reflect the channels in which these variables might affect the economy. Through a panel data analysis considering the 32 states of the Mexican republic in the period 2011-2016, it is found that the perception of insecurity has a higher impact on the economy than the crime rate.
