Resumen

Tropical diabetic hand syndrome (TDHS) is a complex and neglected complication of diabetes, secondary to upper extremity injuries. Due to its wide presentation, can go from deformation, amputation or even death.

Case report:

55-year-old male with diabetes who went to the emergency department of a hospital in northeastern Mexico due to an ulcerated wound, edema and purulent discharge on the hand. A Lawal group III TDHS was diagnosed.

Conclusion:

TDHS is a preventable, life-threatening complication. Education and its early identification could reduce the morbidity and mortality of this pathology.
