The alignment parameter A₂₀ of the L₃-subshell of Ce, Nd, Eu, Dy, and Yb has been calculated by measuring the anisotropic emission of the L¡ X-ray line induced by ¹²C ion impact at 9 MeV bombardment energy. A new Coster-Kronig transition probabilities database is used, as well as more recent theories for ionization cross sections. These experimental results are in better agreement with the theory than previously published data.
