The phenomenon of domestic violence has serious consequences on individuals, families, society and the State. In this essay, the author argues that priority should be given to this phenomenon both by public agencies and non-governmental organizations in their respective action programmes. For this reason, and to achieve the elimination of discrimination and violence against women and children, as well as respect for their dignity, their right to development and their rights of participation, it is necessary to include in the structure, contents and goals of the education system, the rights that are recognized and protected by international instruments signed by Mexico in this field, the duties derived from them, and also the constitutional instruments to guarantee them.
