HERRERA MEZA, María del Carmen; LOPEZ AUSTIN, Alfredo y MARTINEZ BARACS, Rodrigo. The Nahuatl name of the Triple Alliance. Estud. cult. náhuatl [online]. 2013, vol.46, pp.7-35. ISSN 0071-1675.
In this paper we analyze the terms used in the written sources in nahuatl, which refer to the political institution known as the Triple Alliance, a name that usually indicates the association between Tenochtitlan, Tetzcoco and Tlacopan in the late Postclassic period. The revision of the contexts shows that Excan tlatoloyan (the government of three sites) refers to an institution, which in the Central Mexican Plateau has its origin in the ninth century and was also known in other areas of Mesoamerica.
Palabras llave : Triple Alliance; Excan tlatoloyan; Nahuatl terminology for political institutions; prehispanic government.
