Resumen
PENA, Guillermo de la. A Situational Analysis and Study of Urban Networks and Associations in Pluriethnic Contexts. Nueva antropol [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.89, pp.81-106. ISSN 0185-0636.
Situational analysis examines sequences of events, in which a specific group of actors takes part. It captures social reality in movement and distinguishes between various kinds of social relations: structural, categorical, and personal networks. This perspective, complemented by “the extended case study method,” was developed in classic studies, which concluded that ethnic (tribal) identity was clearly expressed in categorical relations. In contrast, class identity predominated in structured labor relations. Nevertheless, research on urban gypsies in Spain and indigenous populations in Latin American cities has revealed that ethnic identity, marked by racist stigmas, may appear in different kinds of social relations and condition access to services and the exercise of citizens’ rights.
