This paper assess the expected seismic behavior of RC frames built with precast members, in which the continuity of the beam flexural reinforcement in the beam-column connection is obtained by in-situ welding of this reinforcement. This paper studies the observed response in Mexico of precast reinforced concrete beam-column connections subjected in laboratory to simulated seismic actions. In these connections, the bottom beam reinforcement in the beam-column connection was in-situ welded to provide continuity and flexural resistance in the precast beam. During testing the specimen units failed due to fracture of the welded reinforcement. Results using an analytical simple model of the beam-column connection, as well as the experimental results showed that this type of connection is not satisfactory, and precast structures using this type of connections should be prohibited.
