Resumen

HERNER REISS, Irene. How to think Public Art? 100 Years of Mexican Muralism. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2022, vol.67, n.246, pp.121-154.  Epub 08-Mayo-2023. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2022.245.83085.

This paper is subdivided into seven segments -independent but interconnected with one another- that are a result of research on public art regarding the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mexican Muralism They express my way of thinking, from the sociology of art and artistic communication, of the concept and experience of public art in Mexico. They represent a synthesis of an old intellectual passion that has structured my thought. This art is created art with great depth, a legacy that deserves to be studied thoroughly from current perspectives, and disseminated as the most refined experience of national cultural communication, with universal value.. Through the artistic proposals of different painters, I analyzed the place of the artist-communicator as an active participant-a professional committed to social development-and public art as a builder of plural identities that constitute our civic heritage. The legacy of muralism in the 21st century lays not only in the production of murals, it has been updated as it is communicated in different ways in mass communication technologies and social networks.

Palabras llave : public art; Mexican Muralism; cultural identity; integration of the arts; professional art.
