Resumen

JUAREZ CERDI, Elizabeth. Living in a Foreign Space: Easter Week among Mexican Migrants in Immokalee, Florida. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2009, vol.30, n.119, pp.135-158. ISSN 2448-7554.

Expressions of popular religiosity among Mexicans in the United States are often seen as manifestations of their Catholic and national (Mexican) identity; however, rarely has attention been paid to what the organization of those expressions means to both the participants themselves and the non-Mexican (and non-Catholic) population in an isolated physical space located in strange, foreign social surroundings governed by rules that are largely unknown to Mexican immigrants. In this artic1e, 1 describe briefly the place where these migrants live and work, before turning to a discussion of the religious acts that migrants' celebrate during Easter Week and their participation in them. Finally, the events and actions of those involved are examined.

Palabras llave : agricultural workers; Mexican migrants; religious practices.
