Resumen
RICO LEMUS, Gabriel. Contraction and disintegration of the p'urhépecha linguistic community in the 21st century: the case of the lacustrine region of Pátzcuaro. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.144, pp.257-302. ISSN 2448-7554.
Based on census data from 1940 and 2010, this article analyzes the displacement of the P'urhépecha language and the contraction and fragmentation of this linguistic community, with emphasis on the Lake Pátzcuaro region. To complement this approach, it sketches an analytical outline of the dynamics of linguistic displacement and resistance, and discusses some factors that lie behind the interruption of the inter-generational transmission of the P'urhépecha language in these lakeside communities.
