Resumen

BASTARRICA MORA, Beatriz. "All Were Decent, but the Cape did not appear". Guadalajara during the Porfiriato: Clothing as an Exchange Merchandise. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.148bis, pp.57-88. ISSN 2448-7554.

In 19th-century Mexico, articles of clothing constituted both a tool for the construction of identities in a new scenario of social mobility, and a terrible headache for those people who did not have the wherewithal to assemble, day-by-day, their appearance in accordance with the existing norms of morality and fashion, which led them to devise and put into practice fascinating compensating strategies, both symbolic and practical in nature.

Palabras llave : fashion; dress; pawn shops; robbery.
