CARRERA QUEZADA, Sergio Eduardo. Between Regularization and Alienation: Compositions, Denouncements and Sales of Unoccupied Land in Yucatan, 1679-1827. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.151, pp.59-92. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v38i151.328.
This article elucidates the attempts by the government of the province of Yucatan to implement the regulation of rural properties through the composition (composiciones) of cattle ranches and haciendas between the 17th and 18th centuries. It also addresses the difficulty of distinguishing between real property and community lands belonging to Mayan villages during procedures that involved denouncements and sales of unoccupied lands in public auction in the first two decades of the 19th century.
