The objective of this article is to analyze the influence that the Spanish Monarchy exerted on the establishment of the Council of Trent, especially through the decrees that focused on the centralization and confessionalization of the Monarchy in the 16th century. The Spanish Monarchy’s influence on the Council is evaluated by examining the correspondence between Charles V and Philip II and their ambassadors in Italy during this period.
