ALVAREZ RODRIGUEZ, Irene María. Green and Silver: Environmentalist miners in Wirikuta. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.156, pp.145-165. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v39i156.314.
This article analyzes the impact of the anti-mining discourse of a social movement -theFrente en Defensa de Wirikuta (FDW, Wirikuta Defense Front)- on a group of people living in a community devoted historically to mining. It discusses how the circulation of knowledge about the harmful ecological impact of mining has shaped the political posture of veteran miners and their families, and promoted their claims by challenging the ideological weight and authoritarian practices of mining companies. The question, then, is what is the link between local agency and the scientific, moral and political discourses that seek to regulate productive practices and conceptions of the environment?
