FLORES FLORES, Graciela. The Judicial City and the Criminal City: A Statistical-Cartographic approach to the Administration of Justice (Mexico City, 1824-1846). Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.158, pp.56-93. Epub 31-Oct-2019. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v40i158.342.
This article analyzes two dimensions of the administration of justice in Mexico City during the 1824-1846 period: on the one hand, the judicial aspect, on the other, the criminal facet. Based on statistics culled from an examination of records of “prisons visits” (analyzed in light of the city’s division into major and minor wards) it was possible to identify the kinds of crimes that the judges and tribunals in the capital sentenced, while the guides for outsiders (guías de forasteros) allowed us to ascertain their spatial location.
