RODRIGUEZ-OROZCO, Alain R.; RUIZ-REYES, Héctor y SANCHEZ-NAFARRATE, Salvador. Effect of the Cry1Ac toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis over the growth of some allergenic fungi isolated from patients whose suffer from allergic rhinitis. Rev. Mex. Mic [online]. 2009, vol.29, pp.43-50. ISSN 0187-3180.
Cry1Ac is a potent mucosal adjuvant. This work was undertaken to evaluate the effect of the Cry1 Ac toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis over growth up of allergenic fungi. The fungi were isolated from nasal exudates in patients with diagnostic of allergic rhinitis and positive skin prick test to allergic fungi. The fungi isolated were identified morphologic and by Biolog system and agar diffusion test was done to evaluate the effect of the Cry1 Ac toxin over the fungi growth up. The following fungal genera were identified: Absidia, Aspergillus, Alternaria, Penicillium, Eupenicillium, Fusarium and Cladosporium. The highest inhibition of growth was obtained for Alternaria to a concentration 31.25μg/mL of toxin. This inhibition corresponded to 100% of the inhibition achieved with Amphotericin B. We suggest to explore the inhibitory effect of Cry1 Ac on the growth up of different genera and species of pathogenic fungi via molecular standardized assays.
